This
week students traveled to the Amazon Rainforest. The focus was on the
various textures of the rainforest and how students can incorporate
these into their artwork. Using recycled materials, students learned
about the process of making paper and were able to make their own paper
as well. Students also learned about the 4 layers of
the Rainforest and the animals and plant-life found there, and applied
this idea of layers in the paper making activity, by adding natural
materials into their finished paper. In addition to paper making,
students were able to work at various centers to create a collaborative
rainforest habitat
by using a combination of natural and synthetic materials.
Using clay, students also created clay animals forms that could be found in the rainforest. We will also
continue an exploration of sound by having an area where students may
listen, explore and drawing to the sounds of the rainforest.
